Words That Can Send You to Hell
“Just words.”
That’s what we tell ourselves, right?
“It was just a joke.” “I was only venting.” “Everyone talks like this.”
But the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ drops this reality check that should make us pause before we speak:
The servant speaks words for which he is sent down to the Hell-Fire farther than the distance between the east and the west. (Sahih Muslim 7120)
Let that sink in.
A few seconds of your tongue moving can earn you a place in Hellfire deeper than the entire span of the horizon.
Not actions. Not major sins. Just. Words.
That comment about someone’s appearance? That lie that “didn’t hurt anyone”? That rumor you passed along? That joke at someone’s expense?
In an age where we can fire off tweets, texts, and comments without a second thought, this hadith isn’t just relevant—it’s urgent.
Your tongue is small, but in the eyes of Allah, what comes out of it is MASSIVE.
So before you hit send on that message today…ask yourself if it’s worth the distance between east and west.
